Services

Four things, done properly, rather than a list of everything the thoroughbred industry contains.

Buying racehorses

Yearlings, breeze-up horses and horses already in training. We inspect everything ourselves and we walk away far more often than we bid.

A colt walked round the parade ring
  • Full catalogue shortlisting, two to three weeks before every sale
  • Physical inspection and veterinary liaison on your behalf
  • Bidding, or you bid and we advise — whichever you prefer
  • Trainer placement, and an honest view on who suits the horse
  • Insurance, transport and entry arrangements handled

Cold Harbour Lad, 58,000gns at the Craven Breeze-Up, won the Commonwealth Cup.

Breeding and broodmares

Buying mares, planning matings, booking nominations. The unglamorous half of this job and the half where most of the money is made or lost.

A mare and foal in dappled sunlight
  • Broodmare purchase at all the European and American breeding stock sales
  • Mating plans, with the reasoning written down rather than asserted
  • Nomination negotiation — we book several hundred coverings a year
  • Foal and yearling sales preparation oversight and consignor selection
  • Culling advice: which mares to keep, and which to sell before they cost you more

Marram, 425,000gns in 2019, has produced two Group winners and a 600,000gns colt.

Advisory and valuations

Independent opinion when you need one, including on horses you already own and horses we did not buy.

A horse and handler on the training ground
  • Written valuations for insurance, probate, tax and divorce
  • Portfolio reviews — what to keep racing, what to breed from, what to sell
  • Second opinions on private purchases and syndicate offers
  • Stallion share and nomination portfolio management
  • Expert witness work and dispute support

We valued 61 horses for insurance and probate purposes last year.

Racing management

For owners who would rather not deal with fourteen invoices a month and a trainer who only rings with bad news.

Two thoroughbreds in headcollars out in the sun
  • Single point of contact across trainers, vets, transport and insurers
  • Consolidated monthly reporting with costs set against prize money
  • Race planning and entries discussed with you, not decided for you
  • Ownership registration, colours and administration
  • Sale timing — knowing when a horse has reached its ceiling

We manage 74 horses in training across five jurisdictions.

Fees

All of it is on the fees page

Commission rates, management charges, valuation costs and who pays us for nominations. Published, because you should not have to ask.

See what we charge

No charge, no obligation

Half an hour on the telephone costs you nothing

Tell us what you want to achieve and what you want to spend. If we think you would be better served by somebody else, we will tell you that instead.
